A Lesson on Trees and Numbers 

Trees and numbers. 

Why do Trees and numbers go together? Because numbers give them their real value. 

Usually, we start with figures like these ones. 

Eighteen million. According to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization, it’s more than 18 million acres of forests every year. That’s the astounding rate at which the planet is currently losing its forests. In other terms and numbers, it means about ‘27 soccer fields of forest’ are lost every minute. 

Twenty Percent. That’s the percentage of forest cover that has been lost since the beginning of the 20th century, and roughly fifty percent of Earth’s tropical forests are said to be already cleared.

The list of numbers can go on and on. We can actually engross ourselves with all the numerals we have created to put some of our actions and their consequences into staggering figures. But what’s good about reflecting on them is that it has helped put reforestation and conservation efforts into motion. 

Now, let’s talk about another kind of numbers. 

Let’s not just talk about the rate we have been using up our rooted lifeline. Why not take a moment and count the numerous ways our foliaged friends have taken us through our daily routines? If you’ve ever tried it, you know it would start from you breathing the fresh morning air. When you wash your face, shower, hear the rustle of the leaves in the wind, eat your favorite entree, or drink that refreshing lemonade, you know that the remaining forests have played a big part in making us enjoy life and indulge our senses every day. We really owe them big time!
